The word “veneer” originated in the 16th century and is derived from the French term “fournir,” meaning to supply or provide. The process of overlaying less valuable material with thin sheets of finer wood to conserve resources is still a highly skilled craft today. Various woods and veneer techniques offer countless design possibilities for surfaces or objects.

An essential aspect of high-quality veneer work is surface treatment. Depending on the wood type, veneer pattern, and usage, different surface finishes are employed. Through these sometimes traditional craftsmanship techniques and modern technologies, we continue to develop veneers, influencing the grain, enhancing contrasts, or altering the natural color.

Your design and interior projects can be transformed into unique works of art even with classic materials. Explore more examples of this material, see projects where it has been used, or return to the Material & Surfaces overview.
