Slate stone: The cleavable natural material serves as the base material for stone veneer.
«In contrast to solid stone slabs, stone veneer consists of a thin layer of genuine natural stone. Only cleavable types of rock, such as slate, are suitable for this application. The veneer is split from large-format slate stone blocks in thicknesses ranging from 0.5 to 2 millimeters. These fine layers are adhered to a polyester-bonded fiberglass backing, making them rigid, flexible, and even translucent. Walls, counters, doors, cabinet fronts, and furniture can be crafted in genuine natural stone using this method. Stone veneers are available in many different colors and varieties of slate, including quartzite. Sandstone is also suitable for this compelling application. The natural sediment structures are bound, peeled to a thickness of two millimeters, and adhered to a support fabric, just like with slate.»
